Review: Kit Kat Gran Wafer
… This is a unique Kit Kat in that it’s the first I’ve ever tried without an outer shell of chocolate. It’s just wafers held together by a chocolate filling, and so my first thought was that the texture was wrong. I mean, not ‘wrong’ wrong, just, not a Kit Kat. It’s like the cheap wafer-cookies that you’d get at the supermarket. That surprise was followed by another—the wafers here are chocolate flavoured and coloured chocolate brown, which is another Kit Kat first for me as usually the wafers are just a standard sort of ‘cookie’ flavour, though honestly they have almost no flavour at all. Review: Kit Kat Bitter Strawberry Bar
In Japanese candy production, “bitter” is code word for dark chocolate, and “dark” seems to be code for just slightly darker milk chocolate. I’m always happy to see slightly more complex candy flavours making their way to store shelves, and so I was excited to see the folks at Nestle combining their popular go-to strawberry flavour with their recently successful Adult Dark Chocolate to create a new snack. Today being March 12th, you may have noticed that I did not. Well, I’m back to let you know that we’re about to take a journey down the path of the Kit Kat Air-In White, the brand new sort of Kit Kat that mixes the wafer/flavour goodness with the micro-bubbles of Aero (or Mirage) bars. I was powerfully unimpressed with the Green Tea air-in Kit Kats, lets see how White fares?

Review: Kit Kat Kuro Mitsu (Black Honey)
This is one of the newest limited edition, giftset flavours of Kit Kat that was released just before my last trip to Japan in the fall of 2011. It’s a very Japanese flavour, I’d actually never heard of Kuro Mitsu before and just now I did a bit research. As noted above, the direct translation is “Black Honey” but it actually has nothing at all to do with honey-from-bees honey. It’s a sugar syrup that’s similar to molasses, made of an unrefined black sugar, though apparently it’s got a milder flavour. Continue reading
